World’s Best Technologies Awards Micoy Top Honors April 06, 2005 |
IOWA COMPANY WAS SELECTED BY 400 PEERS, INVESTORS, AND TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY EXPERTS
Arlington, TX and Des Moines, IA (April 6, 2005).
Micoy Corporation won the prestigious Gold Award at the 2005 World’s Best Technologies (WBT) Showcase—
a national competition held to identify and highlight the best new technologies in the world today. A panel of experts screened world-class technologies from around the globe, chose 76 to exhibit, and selected Micoy as one of the top 25 contenders invited to present their technologies. When more than 400 Showcase participants were asked to select the top three most promising technologies exhibited, Micoy captured the coveted Gold Award.
The annual WBT competition showcases seed and pre-seed stage technologies developed at top universities, government labs, federally supported research and development institutions, and private companies. The elite event showcases new, cutting-edge, first-to-market technologies before the world's leading seed investors, venture capitalists, and Fortune 500 licensing experts. Technologies invited to participate were selected by a national screening panel of seasoned venture investors and Fortune 500 licensing experts who represent a diversity of industry sectors, including Lifescience, Advanced Materials, Energy, Software, Semiconductor, and Agriculture.
Technologies were judged on the following basic criteria:
• Is it a “platform technology” capable of spawning many products?
• Is it first in the space, with the potential to give birth to a whole new industry?
• Is it close to market, with few barriers remaining to commercial application?
Micoy immersive experience technology, which is sometimes referred to as “surround video,” is clearly a platform technology around which many applications and products will be created. Micoy technology enables lifelike immersive experiences unlike anything previously possible and is used for a variety of applications such as the Quarterback Development System, which helps premier football teams gain a competitive edge by improving their quarterback training and by enabling unique play simulations.
"While panoramic cameras exist, the Micoy technology is unique in that the technology allows you to feel like you are literally inside a movie or real environment — completely surrounded by imagery – with three dimensional depth in all directions,” said WBT CEO, Paul Huleatt. “This clearly marks a major breakthrough in imaging technology, but I think what's even more exciting is that it represents a technology available now."
Micoy CEO Joe Stevens emphasized the significance of Micoy’s selection for the Gold Award from such a broad field of impressive competitors. “The other organizations selected to exhibit at WBT demonstrated the most amazing, forward-looking, and far-reaching technologies you can imagine,” he said. "The Micoy team has worked extremely hard to make our visionary technology a reality, and we are truly honored to attain such a high-level of recognition from this influential group of peers and industry experts.”
The WBT is produced in cooperation with the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer, a nationwide network of federal laboratories, and the National Association of Seed and Venture Funds. For more information about the WBT, visit: www.wbt05.com.
